HOW TO MAKE CANDLE AT HOME

Despite the obvious improvement in electricity supply recently, candle production business has not been affected greatly. This is because candle is not just used for illumination; it is also used for articles of prayer and for decorations. Candle production business is a very easy business and can be started on a small scale. You don’t need to build a factory for a start, your backyard is just enough, and with a very little startup capital, you are on the go. There is no doubt that there is a great business opportunity in candle production and distribution and that’s why I have decided to show you the step-by-step method of candle production. You don’t need to pay for any seminar or manual to learn it because it is very simple. Let’s get started right away.

RAW MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CANDLE PRODUCTION

•CANDLE WAX: this is the chief component of candle production. Candle wax are sold in large pellets and they are available in the market.
•STEARIC ACID: this is a colorless, odorless, wax crystalline fatty acid, usually sourced from animal tallow and vegetable oils, used in the manufacture of candles, cosmetics, soaps, lubricants, medicines etc with the chemical formula: C18 H36 O2
•THREAD (WICK): this is the thread like component of the candle which enables it to be lit.

MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT NEEDED

1.Candle Mold
2.Mixer (manual or electric)
3.Burner
5.Stainless or Galvanized container for melting the wax
6.Table and
7.Packaging Materials.
For a small scale production, the only important component among all the above listed equipments is the candle Mold. The candle mold is the major equipment for candle production and cannot be done without. The price is expected to fall over next few years. For those of you who have never seen a candle mold before, the picture below is a typical standard candle mold for large scale production. The much simpler and locally made once for small scale production is also available in the market

PRODUCTION METHOD

STEP 1: Chop the candle wax into smaller pieces and pour into the stainless steel or galvanized container.
STEP 2: Place the container on the burner and allow the candle wax to melt, then add stearic acid and mix properly.
STEP 3: Arrange the candle thread (wick) properly in the mold.
STEP 5: Pour cold water to circulate around the bars of the mold to allow for fast solidification and then allow the water to drain out through the outlet.
STEP 6: To remove the candles produced, pour hot water to circulate round the bars of the mold so that the candles can now be easily removed and packaged.
